Have you been getting enough rest lately? I definitely have not been. For the last few months, I have felt the cumulative affect of the stress in my body and now Im realizing I have this habit of constantly telling myself that I need to get ahead of the curve when it comes to my to-do list. I also tend to be judgmental at the end of the day if I don’t feel like I did enough. And, no matter how much I do get done, I’m never quite satisfied, and I tell myself I need to work harder tomorrow.
At some point we have to realize that we can’t just keep pedaling faster. We need to take powering down a little more seriously. It’s incredible what deep rest can do, both physically and mentally when we allow it and create the conditions to support it.
The system of yoga provides some nice tools. Nidra is a practice of deep systemic relaxation using the tool of visualization. Im teaching a workshop at Riverstone Yoga in Tarrytown on Monday May 21 at 730pm combining gentle and restorative yoga with guided nidra which is beginner friendly.
