Slow Down and Notice
The details of our lives often get lost in the shuffle of our day to day as we speed through tasks. I've been living in Mamaroneck for 15 years and today for the first time I noticed there's an old town burial ground on Mt Pleasant Ave dating back to the 1700s. I've driven past by it thousands of times, but today finally slow enough to notice. I snapped the picture above as a reminder to be more mindful of the details that surround me.
Mindfulness of details is a concept I often explore when teaching yoga. Learning to pay attention to how we align our physical bodies, what our connection points are to the earth and how we are breathing in the various poses help us to cultivate a refined level of awareness in our lives off the mat. We start to become really present instead of letting it all pass us by. A strong sense of intuition and clarity starts to develop. Anxiety lessens and feelings of contentment increase.
See if you can slow down and notice some of the details that surround you as you read this. And of course, come join me on the mat either at the public classes below or for private instruction.
