Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu8/1/2015 Many students have asked about the lovely chant that we close my classes with. Here you go:
Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu - May all beings be happy and free from suffering and may the actions we take be in support of the happiness and freedom from suffering for all beings. If you’re familiar with my classes or work with me privately, you’ve heard me talk about the ongoing and delicate balance between effort and ease. In our physical practice of yoga, we strive to find the right combination where the body is active and engaged, but by using the breath we are steady and comfortable. Even in challenging postures we can usually release tension somewhere, like simply softening the face, and that can bring an effortless quality to our work. When we find this on our mat, it becomes easier to implement in life. There, it's the delicate and ongoing balance between the endless to-do list and practicing self-care.
For me, it’s easier to find this balance during summer because there’s slightly less responsibility. When the colder weather returns, I have a more difficult time being easeful. In particular, the year-end holidays seem to blind-side me, annually. As the stress, responsibilities, and expectations steadily increase and the temperature steadily decreases I always wonder how I could have prepared myself better to maintain balance. Especially since I knew very well it was coming! If this resonates, know this: this year I have your back. I can help prepare you to calmly shine bright from Thanksgiving straight through to the New Year like a Warrior II with a gentle smile. My dear friend and brilliant teacher Petrina Plecko and I have created an All Women’s Yoga & Meditation Retreat Weekend scheduled for November 6-8. The retreat will be held at Pumpkin Hollow, 90 minutes north of Westchester/Rockland in beautiful Crarysville, NY where you will be invited to move inward through the healing practices of yoga, meditation and a period of silence that will support a contemplative journey. This will help you find your inner radiance as winter starts to set it and prepare you for end of year. Petrina and I will offer a variety of yoga classes appropriate to all levels and included will be a Yin/Restorative class featuring live harp. You will enjoy meditation and deep relaxation using guided imagery suitable for beginner and more experienced students alike. You will also have opportunity to spend time in nature, eat fresh and locally grown vegetarian cuisine, and be in the company of beautiful, strong and like-minded women. The grounds are rich in natural beauty and accommodations clean, comfortable and simple. Choose from private and semi-private cottages. If you are planning to attend with a friend, we can arrange for you to room together. The price for the weekend ranges from $395-$525 depending on your choice of rooms. This includes all meals and programs for the 2 night stay. Space is very limited and will enroll quickly, so we encourage you to reserve your spot today. Click here to sign up. Archives
